Carissa's Wierd

Carissa's Wierd (Weird being deliberately mispelled) was an indie rock band from Seattle. Mat Brooke and Jenn Ghetto formed Carissa’s Wierd in 1995, and released three albums before their 2003 breakup. Some people classified their genre as "sadcore", which is (according to wikipedia) an infrequently employed subgenre term used by music journalists to describe examples of alternative rock characterised by bleak lyrics, downbeat melodies and slower tempos. LOL @ bleak lyrics, so what's the difference between emocore and sadcore? Maybe i should invent a new genre too named "sorrowcore" or maybe "crycore" perhaps? LOL. Mat Brooke and Ben Bridwell later went on to form Band of Horses.

Dischord is a fucking amazing record label ever. I like all of dischord bands. Including Jawbox, another D.C.'s post-hardcore outfits. Formed in 1989 and broke up in 1997. And also reunited for one night in 2009 (9th December @ Late Nite With Jimmy Fallon). This was their first show since early 1997.

glassJAw is a post-hardcore band from New York. glassJAw's sound has changed over the course of their history, consisting of the genres; experimental rock, afro-beat, screamo, hardcore, progressive rock, alternative rock and many more lol. Where the hell are they now? The band's kinda unactive since Daryl Palumbo, (the frontman who has x tatto inside his lips) broke the edge (which left Justin Beck as the only member of Glassjaw to remain straight edge) and starts to sing about liquor on his new band Head Automatica. Don't get me wrong, i like Head Automatica (i have their cd "decadence") but glassJAw is 10 times better than Head Automatica, sorry lol. So Daryl, stop making new album for Head Automatica and get back to glassJAw. Yea i know that you needed money and all but you need to finish what you've started.

last night i went to Jakarta International Java Soulnation Festival (yep, the one i posted before this entry) to see DJ Spooky performance. i've been a fan of him since 1998 when i was still in elementary school. The first album I ever bought for myself with my own money was The Original Soundtrack of 'Spawn'. Well, i random-bought it actually, without knowing what will it sounds like. There's a collaboration in this album between Metallica & DJ Spooky titled "For Whom The Bell Tolls (The Irony Of It All)" and also a collaboration between Atari Teenage Riot & Slayer titled "No Remorse". fuck, maybe this is my first breakcore experience hahaha. since then, i downloaded some of his songs off audiogalaxy, kazaa, and blogspot. If someone asks "Is there a music artist that truly does every genre?" i think DJ Spooky's the answer (well, mike patton still tops it all lol). From hip hop, drum n bass, rap, dub, breakcore and even jazz. He did it all! I even heard that he's the inventor of this genre named "illbient". Awesome.

Ok, enough with the flashbacks. So i came to this lounge room where he play. Fuck, the room was all empty! What the fuck is wrong with people these days? Well, i know some of his songs aren't really easy listening but i thought people are more open minded with music these days. There were only 3 people who came to see his performance. the performance only lasts less than a hour. too bad. i shouldn't have watched 'tortured soul' the day before yesterday (he performed too the day before yesterday). but the good thing is, we talked. He said that

"no one like my music here, everyones leaving.", "you gotta be more vocal about me next time i came here."

finally, he gave me one of his mix secret song cd and autographed it. he also gave me his email. he's such a nice dude. see ya next time paul.

"No Song part II" by DC american hardcore era band, Youth Brigade.

TV Shit is an EP by Sonic Youth collaborating Japanese experimental artist Yamatsuka Eye (Naked City, Hanatarash, Boredoms, etc). It was released in 1993 on Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace label. "TV Shit" is 4 takes of "No Part II" recorded live on the Dirty tour. It is referred to as a cover version of the DC Youth Brigade song "No II", the original version of which was a one-second song consisting of the yelled word "No".

Thurston Moore takes the stage to deliver the introduction to this EP.

"This song was written by the DC Youth Brigade 1981 its called No Part II, goes like this...NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!".

As stated this is not an original SY song, it is a cover of Youth Brigade's one second song, "No". Expanding a one second song to 9 minutes do takes some talent.

I'm in big interest to do directing and capturing images. therefore, I hope I can do some film exploration while happens culture exchange. I like to getting part to do some art project and art exploration in your country.

So I have many question for you;

Do you have facility to assist with seluloid images? And film making?,

Can you give me information about other filmmaking activites?,

I'm looking for assistance with accomodation and tuition as I can find funding for visa and air fare?,

Can your University offer any assistance or guidance through the international office?.


I heard about you and watched your movie, and a want to be a spokesperson on my return to Jakarta and sharing the knowledge with students here and also the knowledge that i've got while studying there, and keep the project continue. as a reward, I can introduce jakarta or even indonesia to students there and I hope I could learn something from peoples there then i can bring home when I go back.
